About the EU-GAIA project

The EU Green Agriculture Initiative (EU-GAIA) is currently the largest agricultural project in Armenia, funded by the European Union (EU) and co-financed by the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) ). The project is implemented by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The project government counterpart is the RA Ministry of Economy.

EU-GAIA overall objective

Contribute to the overall, balanced, inclusive development of the northern regions of Armenia by promoting green agriculture and increasing the added value of local products.

The project duration is 42 months, from October 2019 to March 2023

EU-GAIA EXPECTED RESULTS

Component 1. POLICY FRAMEWORK AND CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT OF STAKEHOLDERS (EDUCATION, RESEARCH)

5 policy documents and regulatory instruments developed/ enhanced

300 women and men trained/educated in public and private sector, non-state actors for increased capacities to implement and monitor green agri-interventions

Component 2. GREEN TECHNOLOGIES AND DEMONSTRATION SITES

120 agribusinesses having access to/ applying green technologies and practices (30% owned/managed by women)

Income of supported agribusinesses raised with 15% by project end

Component 3. SUPPORT OF GREEN AGRICULTURE PRODUCERS

120 agribusinesses efficiently utilizing the inputs, equipment, infrastructures and ser-vices (30% women)

15% increased production by agribusinesses

15% increased productivity of selected agribusinesses

200 ha land under sustainable use

Component 4. SUPPORT OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE PRODUCERS

80 organic/in transition agribusinesses supported 15% increased sales volume of organic agribusinesses
